With funds from the Tiganokinisi programme, Kokkinotrimithia Gymnasium purchased materials and plants for the creation of a herb garden, the enrichment of the school garden, as well as for students’ participation in environmental activities.
With the help of the equipment, materials, and plants provided to the school, the children used gardening tools to create their own garden in the schoolyard, where they planted herbs, ornamental plants, and shrubs, as well as the tree they had received during the Christmas period. In this way, the children developed a deeper understanding of and greater appreciation for our natural environment.
In addition, the students participated in an environmental competition, for which they created posters on climate change, its causes, its impacts, and actions to mitigate the phenomenon. They also designed posters on reducing the use of plastic bags and the effects that plastic waste can have on the marine environment.
At the same time, the students visited an environmental centre where they were informed about photovoltaic systems, their operation, efficiency, and advantages.
