Strengthening students’ environmental culture

Kokkinotrimithia Gymnasium utilised funds from the Tiganokinisi program to purchase recycling bins, materials for constructing a composter, irrigation hoses, and plants for the school vegetable garden.

A significant amount from the Tiganokinisi program was allocated for the purchase of hoses to water the trees planted at the front of the school, aiming to provide shade, coolness, and a pleasant school environment. The tree-planting initiative aimed to improve the school space while teaching students to love and care for the natural environment.

The oil produced from the organic olives harvested from the trees planted at the school was sold, and the money was used to support needy students at the school.

Part of the program funds was used to purchase recycling bins so that students could learn to correctly separate different recyclable materials into the appropriate bins.

Materials were also purchased so that students could build their own composter, learning how composting works, which waste can be composted, and how the process can even be applied at home where possible. Composting is an important solution to the problem of organic waste, producing natural fertiliser that can be easily used for school plants and trees instead of chemical fertilisers.

In addition, various types of vegetables were purchased to create a vegetable garden in the schoolyard.
